This is a quick, easy recipe that's similar to sloppy joe filling. We like to eat it on fresh, toasted, homemade hamburger buns with onion slices and pickles, but it's tasty over egg noodles also. It's a big hit with the kids...they all devour it!
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 tsp salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
1/3 cup ketchup
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 tbsp sugar (I've successfully subbed sucanat)
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
Instructions
1. Cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain. (I skip this step because I precook my ground meat).
2. Add onion, celery, and green pepper to the skillet, and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato sauce. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Spoon onto hamburger buns or over noodles and serve.
Yield: 6 servings
Enjoy!
