Easter Traditions: Resurrection/Empty Tomb Rolls

These are another family Easter tradition, along with Easter Story Cookies.  They're not anywhere near healthy, but they're fun and simple for the kids to make and offer a neat illustration of the Easter story! Using homemade dough would be a healthier alternative. These make a nice addition to Easter morning breakfast. The kids love making them!

Ingredients

 a package of large marshmallows
2 or 3 cans of refrigerated crescent rolls (or homemade dough of your choice)
melted butter
cinnamon
sugar

Instructions

Have each child wash their hands. Hand each one a marshmallow, explaining that it represents Jesus: white and pure. While you read John 19,  have them each roll their marshmallows in the melted butter (to represent the anointing oil), then roll them in (or sprinkle with) the cinnamon and sugar (which represents the burial spices). Place each marshmallow in the center of a crescent roll and roll it up so that it's completely sealed (representing the tomb). Be sure to seal each one completely or marshmallows will ooze out everywhere. Bake the rolls according to the package directions. While they bake, read John 20: 1-18. Let them cool, and then have each child open their roll. They'll notice that the roll is hollow...empty...just like Jesus' tomb on Easter morning! Jesus is alive! Now, eat and enjoy!
